Junior In-House Non-Ferrous Scrap Metal Buyer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Purchasing of Non-Ferrous and Ferrous Scrap in accordance with current market conditions and with consideration to company policy, environmental regulations, and current local and federal regulatory agency controls – candidate must have basic knowledge of the Scrap Recycling Industry regarding all above items.
  • Enforcement of safety policies associated with the safe unloading and handling of material throughout the metals buy-back process;
  • Accurate grading and assessment of customers’ material (based on price per pound or ton);
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the close tracking of customers’ sales history;
  • Coordinate purchases with scrap processing staff (Yard Workers) to ensure that customers’ material is sorted in a timely manner;
  • Sort material as needed;
  • Answer customer questions by phone and in person;
  • Keep work area clean and organized;
  • Fill in as needed and/or assist in Shipping and Receiving department;

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the scrap recycling industry and ability to easily identify both ferrous and non-ferrous metals;
  • Experience in a Customer Service position
  • Great communication skills
  • Fundamental computer skills
  • Excellent math skills
  • Ability to effectively negotiate
  • Experience in sales in an industrial atmosphere
  • College degree (BA or BS in Sales, Marketing, Business, and/or comparable experience in the field of recycling)
  • Sending and receiving digital photos over email
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with industry standards;
  • Day shift hours: Monday – Friday 7:00am-5:00pm and Saturdays 7:00am-2:00pm;

***Accepted applicants with no prior industry knowledge will be subjected to a 6 month, in-house training period and review. Training period puts heavy emphasis on material knowledge and hands-on operation.
